What’s the Future of the James Bond Franchise?

The name’s Bond– James Bond. Known as one of the most famous British icons, this MI6 agent has been everywhere, from books to films. He even met the former Queen of England during the opening ceremony of the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London!

James Bond, aka Agent 007, has a tremendous history behind him, but what’s the future of this franchise going to be like? Will the MI6 agent enjoy the same success as he did in previous years, or should we have this franchise live and let die? Let’s analyse Mr Bond and see where his future’s heading.

The History of James Bond

When we think of James Bond, we think of the film series. However, this character didn’t make his debut in a film. Instead, Mr Bond’s debut was in the 1953 novel Casino Royale by British author Ian Fleming.

The MI6 agent didn’t make his film debut until 1962 when the 1958 novel Dr. No was adapted. While the film, produced by Albert ‘Cubby’ Broccoli and Harry Saltzman, was successful, it was the 1964 film Goldfinger that turned James Bond into an international icon.

Many actors have portrayed Agent 007, including Sean Connery, Pierce Brosnan, and (the most recent) Daniel Craig. Craig’s portrayal of Mr Bond beginning in the 2006 film Casino Royale was a soft reboot of the character, turning him into a post-Cold War hero born in 1968.

Even after Ian Fleming’s death, many more writers have continued writing novels and films about this iconic MI6 agent. We couldn’t be any more thankful for that.

James Bond and Casinos

Since James Bond is an international icon, it’s no surprise to see him appear in not just films and novels, but also in games. From 007: Quantum of Solace to the iconic GoldenEye 007, Mr Bond’s appearances in video games have been nothing short of welcoming. However, what about iGaming?

The MI6 agent loves playing casino games, and it’s clear to see when we hear songs about poker used in movies like Casino Royale and Dr No. Poker, along with baccarat, is one of James Bond’s favourite casino games.

There have to be at least a few casino games based on Agent 007, right? Lucky for those who like casino games, there are. There are loads of games to choose from, and all have amazing graphics and gameplay. There are also loads of games with the classic 007 films and the recent Daniel Craig ones.

James Bond is an international icon who loves playing casino games, so it’s no surprise to see many other casino games based on the MI6 agent. Anyone who enjoys James Bond and casino games should definitely try playing one of those casino games based on him.

What’s the Future of the James Bond Franchise?

James Bond has been around since 1953, and his first film adaptation came out in 1962. Since then, the MI6 agent has become a hit worldwide. So, what does the future hold for Agent 007?

As we’ve stated before, many actors have portrayed Mr Bond, with the most famous ones being Sean Connery, Pierce Brosnan, and (the most recent) Daniel Craig. Each actor’s portrayal comes with a unique interpretation of the character.

For example, Brosnan’s portrayal of Bond was elegant and witty, yet masculine and occasionally gritty. Meanwhile, Craig’s portrayal was charming, yet cold-hearted. Critics have claimed that Craig’s portrayal was the closest to Fleming’s original characterisation of Agent 007.

Besides being an MI6 agent and loving casino games, James Bond is famous for bedding many women. From Pussy Galore to Dr Holly Goodhead, we call these women Bond girls. After all, James Bond is a rather charismatic man.

Some people have had issues with the concept of the ‘Bond girl’ and how the MI6 agent interacts with women. For example, the character M, played by Judi Dench in the 1995 film GoldenEye, calls Bond a ‘sexist, misogynist dinosaur’.

There’s also the fact that not every Bond film does equally well. For example, the 2002 film Die Another Day and the 1979 film Moonraker are often considered some of the worst Bond films. Meanwhile, fans are head over heels for films like Goldfinger (1964), GoldenEye (1995), and Skyfall (2012).

With the success of 2021’s No Time to Die, it’s clear that Agent 007 isn’t going anywhere. However, this film is also Daniel Craig’s last time playing the MI6 agent. So, who’s going to be the next Bond?

Some people speculate that Rége-Jean Page and Henry Golding might be good contenders for the role; some have even speculated that a woman might be the next Bond. However, Barbara Broccoli, the current producer, says that a female Bond would be a ‘gimmick’. Whoever becomes the next Bond, though, will have big shoes to fill.
